Sewer system of Čakovec agglomeration - Water Protection Project, Feasibility Study, Application for EU co-funding

The study analyzed the socio-economic context of the project and the relevant utility company. A detailed analysis of the present condition in the sewerage system has been done, boundaries of coverage have been defined (agglomeration) according to the technical as well as economic indicators of the possibilities of implementation. Based on the set main criteria of the study - the achievement of satisfactory standard of treatment, bringing a combined system in full functional stage and an increase of the sewerage system connection rate to a satisfactory level - verifications required by the EU rules, which verify the sustainability and profitability of the investment plan have been conducted through the study, which includes as follows:

• Reconstruction of the wastewater treatment plant to the third stage of treatment with a capacity of 75.000 ES.
• Expansion of the sewerage system to suburban areas with planned new network of 72,5 km and 34 pumping stations that will connect about 8.500 new users.
• Reconstruction of the existing combined sewerage system to ensure safe and reliable operation in accordance to the current standards for property protection and recipient water bodies. The works comprise approximately 9,5 km of sewerage network and construction of two overflows with belonging 1860 m3 of retention basins.
• Rehabilitation of combined system section with aim to reduce currently high infiltration rate. The area with the largest share of infiltration rate has been identified and about 5 km of the network has been included in the rehabilitation program.
• Procurement of equipment for maintenance of the newly constructed network.
• Supervision of all activities included in the project.

Upon the Study preparation and acceptance, the project application has been prepared used for the EU co-funding Application. Both the study and the application have been accepted by Europen commission consulting agency and the project is currently in process of implementation.
